Welcome to Project Type Zero The Hope for a Diabetes Free Tomorrow. We'd like to introduce you to the program, the staff, and the mission.
Project Type Zero is a fundraising initiative directed by Kaili Purviance and Alyson Mizke, sponsored by the Building and Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO, benefiting the Diabetes Research Institute.
Mission: to increase the support for our many State and Local Councils around the country and their generous sponsors who work to raise money for Diabetes Research. To hear more about the brothers and sisters of the Building and Construction Trades Department, please click on the "About the BCTD" tab above. There, you'll also find more information about the history of our fundraising efforts.
The men and women of the BCTD have contributed to Diabetes Research Institute for more than 25 years. They couldn't have chosen a more worthy cause. As the only disease in America that is currently on the rise, no community is in more need of our help. And as the leader in cure-focused diabetes research, no Foundation brings greater hope to this community than the DRI. To hear more about the efforts of the DRI and the lives that they affect, please click on the "Diabetes Research Institute" tab above.
We know once you hear about the promising work being done at the DRI, you'll understand why the BCTD has worked to raise over $40 million dollars on their behalf. This remarkable amount of money has been raised through two primary programs. The first is the Department's national outreach effort, annual Labor of Love Golf Tournament. Played this year in sunny Miami Beach, Florida, the Labor of Love was a great success, raising more than $212,000. To view footage of this event, please click on the "Labor of Love" video tab.
The second BCTD campaign is "Dollars Against Diabetes". Better known as D.A.D.'s Day, it began in 1986 in local union halls across the country. Every Father's Day Weekend, groups of union members and their friends would stand on street corners asking for donations for Diabetes Research. In the 24 years since then, the D.A.D.'s Day campaign has grown to include golf tournaments, poker runs, 5Ks, and more. To hear more about D.A.D.'s Day 2009, please click on our "Fundraising and Events" tab.
Wondering how you can contribute to this worthy cause? We welcome the help and support of both union and non-union communities. Click on the tab above marked "Get Involved" to be walked through the process of starting your own new event. You will find recommendations on everything from forming a committee to help you start your new event to choosing the perfect type of activity for your community. It's fun and it's rewarding!
We also welcome you to view our Contact Information. We are grateful to you for your interest in participating, and are always here to help. And if now is not the right time for you to take on a full event, please show your support by clicking on the green "Donate Now" button.
